International School of Medicine (ISM)

The International University of Kyrgyzstan (IUK) was created in March 1993 by a decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic(State license AL #039) that elevated the university to the statusof international higher education institution. All lessons are conducted on western education standards at IUK-credit hours system. IUK students have the opportunity to transfer from the second and third year to universities of USA and Europe. As a result of the joint project with University of Karlstad (Swe-den) we also joined the European Credit Transformation System(ECTS).IUK has qualified and professional staff and faculty. UK faculty members have gone through training at San Francisco State University (USA), University of Michigan (USA), the University of Karlstad (Sweden), University of Hanover (Germany), Arn- hem Business School (the Netherlands), the University of Lap- landia (Finland), Tohoku University (Japan), Central European University (Hungary), University of Bern, (Switzerland), Salem International University (USA) and other leading world academic institutions.

There are four higher schools (HS), five institutes and two col-leges, seven scientific research institutes at IUK which offer un-dergraduate and graduate programs in different fields:

Programs of medical school:

BASIC MEDICAL EDUCATION — “GENERAL MEDICINE” — 5 years of study for school graduateswith 12 years of educational experience (mostly for British Commonwealth citizens). This program isimplemented in English as the language of instruction. The program is implemented with the use of integration and modules based training introduced in Kyrgyzstan with the technical sup-port of World Health Organization experts and through the application of the credit hours system.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES (Residency Program, 3 years) — Conducted in a broad range of clinical fields such as: obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, traumatology and orthopedics, pediatrics, therapeutics and others. ISM also offers postgraduate non-clinical training programs for physician-laboratory assistant and Masterof Public Health.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PROGRAMS — Offered in various fields with subsequent presentation of relevant dissertations leading to scientific degrees of: “Candidate of Medical Sciences” awarded at ASPIRANTURA (equivalent to Ph.D) “Doctor of Medical Sciences” awarded at DOCTORANTURA (on completion of doctoral studies).
